Events - the ninth annual Gathering

What is going on in 2011

There are a number of events throughout the weekend. Often times things are discussed and happen at the last minutes, but there are always core events around which everything else is planned. These events are listed below. Keep in mind that all weekend long, there are people from the Gathering bowling practice or just hanging out at the bowl.

Blind-Draw Doubles

Friday, July 29, 2pm - Creekside Lanes

Organized by Jay Anderson, this is a for-fun handicapped event where partners are drawn at random. This is a sort of get-to-know-you event that acts as a social "ice-breaker" and provides some friendly competition. Games are bowled in scotch doubles and baker formats.

Creedside Scotch Doubles

Friday, July 29, 7pm - Creekside Lanes

On Friday nights, Creekside lanes hosts a handicapped scotch doubles event with a small entry fee. Teams are one guy one gal. The gal throws the first shot and the guy attempts to pick up the spare until the gal throws a strike. The roles are then reversed. There's usually a good turnout for this event of both local bowlers as well as Gathering participants.

2nd Annual Thong Princess Official Bragging Rights Tournament

Saturday, July 30, 2pm - Creekside Lanes

Named after the late-great Thong Princess (we love and miss you Colleen) this is the central event of The Gathering. Participants bowl 3 games with each game bowled on a different pair of lanes. Each pair of lanes has a different, challenging lane condition. Historically, the event officially recognizes the handicapped winner. This outstanding bowler is presented with some kind of trophy which enables bragging for one full year. Unofficially the top man and woman handicapped scores are recognized as well as the top scratch score. There's no money involved. It's all about the bragging rights.

Group Dinner Party

Saturday, July 30, 6pm-ish - Location TBD

Nothing makes a bowler hungry like bragging rights competition on difficult conditions. So after the Bragging Rights Tournament, everyone goes out to dinner together for a bite to eat. The cost is kept to a reasonable level and typically some sort of group discount or freebies are part of the plans.

Last year, the remaining group when to the Foothills Brewing CO for dinner. This seems like a good place to hold the official dinner as it has a relatively large menu and two separate rooms that can hold the entire group. Oh, and beer!
